The Festival

For more than 20 years, the Rio de Janeiro International Short Film Festival – Curta Cinema has brought Rio’s audiences a wide-ranging selection of the best and most significant Brazilian and foreign short films.  Each year, around 300 films of the most diverse genres are shown.  The works that get selected are organized into competitive programs, special programs, retrospectives and spotlights on the production of guest countries. The Curta Cinema Festival is a showcase for the great cultural and esthetic multiplicity short films represent.  The Festival has always aimed at presenting productions characterized by innovation and daring, and has become a benchmark on the international short film scene.

Besides projecting films, the Festival has developed a series of parallel activities such as lectures, workshops and debates. These are informative and educational activities, geared not only toward professionals in the area but also toward informing audiences, encouraging reflection, learning and the exchange of ideas.

Curta Cinema 2012

The 22nd Edition of the Rio de Janeiro International Short Film Festival – Curta Cinema will take place from November 1 to November 8, 2012.

Submissions for the Rio de Janeiro International Short Film Festival – Curta Cinema 2012 are opened. Submit your film on www.shortfilmdepot.com

This year, films may also be sent through protected electronic link (such as Mimeo and others), making it unnecessary to send physical copies to validate the entries.

The official program will once again have a renewed structure, increasing the number of competitive programs, reinforcing regional panoramas and remodeling themed and genre programs.  The International Focus will, for the first time this year, pay tribute to a non-Latin language country.
